Getting Closer

There is just something about visiting the orchard & picking your own apples that feels very much like Fall, and I am SO ready for Fall. Sweaters, hot chocolate, camp fires, cool days, brightly colored leaves, Pumpkin Spice lattes, snuggling in a blanket on our new patio while enjoying a glass of wine. I know I shouldn't rush time. I should enjoy every day, every season. But Fall is my absolute favorite. It just invokes so many cozy, happy feelings for me, and I can't wait for it to arrive.

We spent the morning picking apples with my Mom. This orchard also has pears, peaches & nectarines. The peaches were nearly gone, and the pears were not quite ready, but I definitely plan on returning when they are! In the meantime, we will be enjoying some delicious apple pie. I use this recipe, compliments of my Mom. It's super easy, and super delicious.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Slice 5-7 tart apples and arrange in your pie shell (I use a store bought pie crust. I know, I know...)
Mix 1/2 cup sugar & 1 t cinnamon. Sprinkle over apples.
Mix another 1/2 cup sugar & 3/4 cup flour. Cut in 1/3 cup of butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over top.

Bake 40 minutes or until done. Enjoy!

  1. Yum! I want to bake an apple pie after going to the orchard! Living in the North, I'll have to wait at least a month and a half before apple picking :) But I'm totally with you-- ready for sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes and cool evenings!

  7. I love crumbly topped pies. This sounds yummy! I'm a failed pie cruster, again again failed. And the store boughts are pretty darn good, so no shame it that :)
